OUR VISION

Careers Co-ordinators: Miss N Howe & Miss N Perry

Our aim as a school is to provide an inclusive, effective and stable careers strategy which raises our students’ aspirations throughout the entirety of their school career.

We strive to address the needs of each student by providing them with enriching career and educational related experiences and guidance, to ensure they are fully equipped with the knowledge they are entitled to, to enable them to make informed decisions about important life and school choices.

Studies indicate that the best school career strategies encompass a range of activities and engagement opportunities.  These pilot studies helped to shape the 8 career ‘benchmarks’.  We have centred our approach to mimic this model in a way which is relevant to our students and have created the following 5 Southchurch High benchmarks which will act as guideline for whole school Careers interventions.

The 5 Southchurch High School career benchmarks are:

  1. Maintaining a stable Careers programme.
  2. Ensuring each student is taken into consideration and is provided with meaningful opportunities and encounters including (but not limited to) employers and further/higher education.
  3. Providing students with a ‘career advisor’ at relevant and useful stages of their school career to assist with important decision making and focus.
  4. Raising aspirations by providing relevant and useful advice, linking education with careers through informative and motivating encounters &/activities.
  5. Learning from local market information to ensure information that is provided is accurate and relevant.
